Ministry Development

Health Fitness Ministries is an outgrowth of the professional career of Tony Whitney, Ph. D. He is a retired Professor Emeritus of Exercise Science from Youngstown State University in Ohio. He has taught at the U. S. Naval Academy and The Ohio State University where he completed his doctorate degree. He was one of the first exercise professionals to receive the American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Program Director certification. As President of Sports Medicine Institute, Inc., he was awarded a government contract to write the U. S. Navy Health and Physical Readiness program for Command Fitness Coordinators. Dr. Whitney was the founder and director of Professional Cardiac Rehabilitation, Inc., one of the most successful cardiac rehabilitation programs in the country with over 400 active patients.

Tony is now living in Titusville, Florida with his wife Susan, enjoying hobbies of fishing and gardening while he continues to develop the Health Fitness Ministry. Their son Shawn, and daughter Lori, still live in Ohio. In the Summer months it’s off to Colorado where they have a little cabin in the Rocky mountains. There, Tony is working on a goal of climbing all of Colorado’s “fourteeners”, 54 mountains over 14,000 feet. His main Colorado goal is to continue the ministry development with local churches in the Fort Collins area.

Dr. Whitney notes that he has been formulating the Health Fitness Ministry for more than ten years. It is only a few years ago that he has felt prepared and compelled to “step out of the boat” to dedicate time and energy to developing the ministry. As he puts it “it’s time to pay back some of the blessings he has received for his own health and fitness.” Comments from some workshop and seminar participants have been very encouraging and support the continued ministry development.
